New Salsa Promises: Marco Lago

With his first single “Piensalo” written by John Upegui, a man who has composed songs for Maelo Ruiz; Willie González, Ismael Miranda, and Luisito Carrión, Marco Lago promises to be one of the next big names in Salsa music worldwide.

Marco Lago was born in 1990 in Pasto, a city in southern Colombia on the border with Ecuador. A lawyer by profession and currently based in Cali, his life has always been intertwined with music, especially salsa.

More than 10 years ago, he began his journey as an amateur singer, exploring local venues and honing his style. In 2023, he decided to pursue professional training, with the vision of taking his musical career to the next level.

Last year, 2025, he released his first single, “Piensalo,” a song he co-wrote with maestro Jhon Upegui in New York City.

“My passion for salsa stems from its energy, its history, and the power with which it connects people. My goal as an artist is to continue singing, creating authentic music, and contributing new ideas to the genre, bringing joy and feeling to every performance,” he says.
