Harry Styles’ New Album Enters the Chart at #7
Por Carlos Passage
The “modern era” began in 1991 when Luminate (formerly Nielsen Music) for Billboard started electronically tracking music sales in the U.S. using barcodes.
Before that, record labels reported sales without any official auditing.
Today, sales, especially streaming equivalents, are easier to track and verify, even for anyone, since view counts (YouTube) and streams (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) are publicly available.
